Let's cut to the chase: Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?Answer: Yes and No! If by permanent you have in mind a dictionary definition such as Merriam Websters: "continuing or enduring without fundamental or marked change" then the answer is Yes! Laser hair removal is permanent. For the most part, treated areas do continue without a marked change. If your understanding of permanent in the context of hair removal is that no hair will ever grow again, then the answer to the question "Is laser hair removal permanent?" is in most cases No! Let's take a moment to explain: Everybody is different. The human body is complex and when it comes to rate of hair growth, hair texture, or hair color, there is a vast range of characteristics. Some individuals respond well to laser hair removal, others can be disappointed. So to put some figures on this, one authority says 80% permanent hair reduction can be achieved in 80-90% of suitable candidates. Another authority says it is 98-99% permanent. Here's the problem: Laser hair removal can only disable the mechanism of hair growth in hair follicles where hair is in the growth stage. So at any particular time, an individual only has a certain percentage of hairs in the growth stage. This means a laser hair removal session will catch them and kill the growth. However, when other hair follicles enter the growth stage hair will reappear. So what's the answer? Repeated laser hair removal sessions over a few months to try and catch as high a percentage of the hairs as possible. So for many candidates, they will see a huge reduction in hair growth over the months. Some follicles may get away so a touch up session may be needed every year or so. Then again, the human body can undergo various hormonal changes and this can activate new hair follicles. Again, a touch up session every once in a while will take care of this problem. Note:
Just be sure to go for a consultation and ask plenty
of questions. Your practitioner should be able to give you some
idea of how many treatments may be needed in your case. So for the vast majority, laser hair removal is very successful and as close as you can get to a permanent hair removal solution, apart from electrolysis of course. That's a whole different subject as electrolysis treatments zap each hair individually adding to the time needed and the expense! Laser hair removal is economical in that large areas of skin can be covered in one session and hundreds of hair follicles can be disabled at one time. So in answer to the question: Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent we can say: Maybe not 100% but it's pretty darn close!
